I'm back on my #PinePhone BS again this weekend. Tried out a few more OSes and tried installing to internal flash. Wifi, LTE data and SMS Just Work™️ with everything. Ironically voice calls are the trickiest thing to get working on this "phone" 😂
Was beginners' luck having calls work initially without effort I guesd. but I'm still learning and having fun.
Hmm...so running `apt update && apt upgrade` and rebooting made phone calls come back again on #mobian
Imma gonna leave it like this for awhile and just *use* my Free/open fondleslab for a change. Maybe think of some app ideas since @thatgeoguy asked before. Maybe a fitness tracker for when I go jogging would be nice...hmm...
@msh Looks awesome. Congrats!
@joeo10 thanks! I expect this to occupy all my free time over the next little while🤣
@msh :DDD!!!! Hype!!!
@msh You're the second guy in this city that I know has one! I cannot wait to be number 3!
@msh My wife immediately stole the red USB-C cable from mine ;)
@msh this all sounds promising (as my 2.5 yo xiaomi begins to act up) 👍
@msh So I finally got around to distro-hopping away from @ubports #UBTouch today. I have to say, my first impressions of Mobian are... I'm not that impressed? It seems vastly less fluid, apps take a long time to load, etc.
Not to disparage the work done here, I've even seen Anbox working on Mobian recently, but it does make me appreciate more the bare essentials that #UBTouch provides. I'll be keeping #UBTouch on my #Pinephone's eMMC, and I'll check in with Mobian on an SD card. 🤷♂️
@msh What do the DIP switches do?
@ifixcoinops they are physical disconnect switches for cameras, wireles etc. if you need to ensure privacy.
@msh Well that's pretty neat
Can't wait to hear more!!
@msh It definitely feels nice and solid .. I do wish at least the "radios on/off" switch was outside the phone, though. I wonder if that's just for this version, or will it to "actual production" like that?
(The reason I don't like it is I feel like "take off the back cover" is so much of pain, I'm unlikely to ever use the radio-off feature).
@meejah the hidden nano-dip-switches definitely have that vibe of being a "preview feature" so that devs can make sure their software handles the physical disconnect of those peripherals correctly rather than being used by normal people.
its an option for people who want to enforce "offline" operation for niche uses otherwise i suppose.
@matt it shipped on July 16. It spent most of it's trip in Chicago lol.
Looks like it might be an issue at DHL in Singapore specifically. I'd probably follow up with them.
@msh Soo Pretty!
@Avalon yep...the provided bright red USB cable is especially pretty too!
@msh Oh, wow. We just got ours today too! Literally within hours of you getting yours, judging by the timestamps.
We still haven't started up ours yet. (We wanna charge it up as much as we can before we give in to our anxiety.)
@KitsuneAlicia You have more self control than I do. I was booting it up moments after plugging in the USB cable...which I did before I even put the cover back on
@msh Haha! That's usually how it is for us too. We just wanted to try to do things "properly" this time.
That said, we managed to wait until ~60% charge before we booted it up. In fact, we're sending this toot from it.
