@jalcine There was a system on gnusocial called Sharings. It was mainly designed for gifting or bartering, like Freecycle, but there was also the possibility of adding a price. Something like that updated for ActivityPub would be good. Maybe combined with one of the less awful cryptocurrencies. A limitation of Sharings was that it didn't federate and so was limited to users on a single instance.

pre-show starts soon and @squirrel is getting all amped up :blobrainbow: :ablobspin: 🤣

Aaaand we're finished. All that's left to do is sort out some software issues, and go through this ROMset to remove the lewd games. Once it's delivered I can do a big long build thread and post it everywhere 'cause I'm really pleased with how this turned out. :)

What are "meta-scale contextual performance complexities"?

They sound important. According to this marketing slide from an IoT vendor they designed and tested in the world's largest disaster training facility to understand them :blobthinking:

tqdm is such an amazingly useful python library, I feel like I am on the verge of being actually furious about not knowing about it until like a month ago for some reason

Hmm this is interesting.

Firefox admits they will eventually be sending all of your DNS to Cloudflare. Cloudflare will monetize your internet browsing, no matter how much their PR people say they are.

If you want to disable that, go to "about:config", and set "network.trr.mode" to 5.

The values are: 0 - default off, 1 - race, 2 TRR first, 3 TRR only, 4 shadow, 5 off by choice

Uhoh there was a transporter accident and now there is @Taweret and @Taweret and now I'm trying to figure out which one is the "Will" version and which one is the "Thomas" version

Thanks to everyone who participated in the polls! It's been a lot of fun over the past two weeks and I'm sure we'll do this again! Probably sometime in the winter, when I'm bored & more instances support polls 😆

(My apologies to Linus Torvalds of 1991 ;)

I've currently ported ActivityStreams and WebFinger, and things seem to work. This implies that I'll get something practical within a few months, and I'd like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions are welcome, but I won't promise I'll implement them :-)

PS. Yes - it's free of any mastodon code. It is NOT protable, and it probably never
will support anything other than Linux, as that's all I have :-(.

Hello everybody out there using mastodon -

I'm doing a (free) ActivityPub system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like Mastodon) for the fediverse. This has been brewing since april, and is starting to get ready. I'd like any feedback on things people like/dislike in Mastodon, as ActivityPub resembles it somewhat.

I have finished upgrading Mastodon on from 2.6.5 to 2.7.4 and everything seems OK.

Every time I catch up on upgrades I am increasingly reminded that Mastodons are really big and heavy.
