I'm listening to a Scottish robot read Canadian news on #aNONradio 🤣
While we're all focused on the Corona crisis the US government is quietly pushing an internet #surveillance bill that is aimed at abolishing message encryption:
We should probably pay attention to this and spread awareness even if we are not American: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/03/earn-it-bill-governments-not-so-secret-plan-scan-every-message-online
Life, work and COVID-19 (-ve)
...that said I'm hoping I can make the best of it. More time at home means more time to get the server upgrades I want to do done for good, and work on some programming and hardware project ideas I have not had the bandwidth to do...
And maybe do some good deeds for others...
And keep my mind off the crappy situation from time to time.
Life, work and COVID-19 (-ve)
Shittiest. March. Ever.
Haven't shared this with many but 2 weeks ago my 83 year old father had an accident at home and suffered bad head trauma, cracked ribs and injuries to his right arm and leg. He has been in the hospital since.
Now that there has been a reported community infection here not only am I going to be working at home, probably on reduced hours/pay, hospital visitations are going to be severely restricted.
This is going to be difficult...
Hey @thatgeoguy welcome to my little outpost!
Excuse the mess today, I've been doing a bit of renovations to my systems to try and make things run smoother. You may see some 50x errors today.
Rest assured the situation is temporary; I've been here 3 years and plan to stick around a lot longer!
Hey @snowdusk_ I washed my hands!
Oh damn I touched my mobile to send this I have to wash my hands again 😝
Also don't forget to clean your phone lol
Pandemic shopping experience
Went to my neighborhood supermarket and it was a blissfully pedestrian experience.
No long queues
Shelves well stocked
Toilet paper available
Either the panic has subsided and suppliers have caught up, or the fact it's a T&T Asian supermarket kept the fragile and frightened racist doomsday preppers away.
The old toot slingin' elephant on my server is being unstable again. The docker containers like to restart every hour or so.
I did some updates last week that seemed to help a bit, but then the last couple days things seem to be acting up again.
I have a theory that the glusterfs storage server I keep the data on has a bug when under load, but I have to finally upgrade the storage server from stretch to buster to get the fix.
The joys of feeding and caring for this elephant
So Trump placed restrictions on travel between Europe and 'Murica...
*After* thousands of infected people already in his country...
And the UK is *not* included for some reason.
The wife of the Canadian Prime Minister, among others, contracted the virus during a trip to...the UK.
I know the POTUS has a tenuous grasp of reality at the best of times, but is there ANYONE in his administration paying attention to the situation?
just verified for myself: the latest debian+phosh image for the #pinephone now has working phone calls, out of the box.
OMG! Projekt ONI's logo kicks ass!
Food + Late Stage Capitalism
The curious phenomenon of "ghost kitchens" has arrived in Canada. These are commercial kitchen facilities that exist solely to fill orders for food delivery gig platforms like Skip the Dishes, DoorDash and Uber Eats.
Each kitchen often poses as several different "restaurants". It is like another shitty silicon valley scam idea like "ghost hotels" on AirBnB and drop shippers with fake Shopify storefronts selling cheap watches and stuff.
