I figured it out! Now users of my instance can also get a free peertube profile at video.coales.co just by clicking the "sign in with coales.co Mastodon Instance" button instead of a separate username and password! That means I'm also at @msh now and my other users can set up too!

Gotta say though the "peertube-plugin-auth-oauth2-mastodon" has pretty useless documentation and has some jankiness to it--it forces the email address to be your Masto "handle @ instance" which seems wrong...

I just set up my own server at video.coales.co and it looks stable! Haven't opened registrations up (yet) but will probably be welcoming users befor too long. In the meantime I am following a couple of instances like so I can help replicate their libraries.

I would like to use the service provided by my instance for authentication. I see OAuth plugins but the documentation is pretty sparse and I haven't figured it out. Anyone else got it yet?

45 impeachment

Apparently the defense's strategy is to show hundreds of sub-one-second clips of Democrats saying the word "fight" and I'm like glad that they only plan to argue for 3-4 hours if that is the best they can do

I've been tasked with updating my employer's WordPress based site OMFG so much bloat so many plugins editing this site is like using IE6 with a dozen toolbars and BHOs why is WP so popular someone please rescue me from this purgatory

Grounding day seems a bit pointless on the Canadian prairies because...

* rodent doesn't see shadow: woohoo early spring!

* rodent sees shadow runs back in hole: woohoo only six more weeks of winter!

In my work inbox today. Does Google do any sort of proofreading or QC at all?

All the mistakes, plus the fact it was sent to me directly and not our IT inbox, makes me think it is phishing, but the headers indicate it actually came from Google, and my employer (unfortunately) uses gmail as its email provider and it's pretty aggressive at blocking Google phishing stuff.

blessed are the piece makers, for they shall enable modularity

Waiting patiently for Google to ban text messaging and mms from Android due to profanity and sexual content

You can help! Text all your friends nudies and naughty words!

controversial technology opinion

I seem to be in the minority here but a web page should be able to load its content without needing JavaScript. If your page only loads an empty wireframe without JavaScript, you’ve failed at the web. Bare minimum, load the fucking content. If it’s being pulled dynamically, do that server side and then generate a damn page.

Work from home is falling apart for whom?

I'd say mostly for the fragile folk who normally fly to Davos, own city skyscrapers and lend people money to buy new cars and bigger homes mostly. I worked from home for 10 years and they're bitching about 10 months. *sigh*

Crapitalism

In the past 5 years there has been a lot of focus and awareness of how vulnerabilities of large social media silos and related algorithms have been exploited to manipulate politics and polarise society, but direct manipulation of the global economy has not been discussed nearly as much.

If we don't pay attention we could see the kind of social media driven turmoil in the stock market in 2021 that we saw politically starting in 2016.

And there are others too whose stock prices are being driven by "retail investor enthusiasm" , AKA redditors who have discovered stock market platform trading systems can be gamed simply by informally coordinating based purely on technicals.

Stock markets no longer represent any sort of economic reality. They are simply the world's largest casinos.

It's a Monday morning, so have a couple of manifestos (manifestoes? manifesti?) that meet my mood:

The Code It Yourself Manifesto by Christian Kellerman (h/t @crc): pestilenz.org/~ckeen/blog/post

The Handmade Manifesto by Andrew Chronister (h/t @owl): handmade.network/manifesto
