Also, and relatedly, how did I not know about this vertically-oriented large-scale open-source CNC router design? 😍

No matter which social network you're on, following a diverse group of people helps you taking a peek at the other side of your personal filter bubble.

You don't have to agree with everything and everyone, but please, at least try to listen to people and their opinions.

It will help you appreciate your own life, and may just make you a little wiser.

Hey @Gargron you might have a potential spambot problem to deal with here...

This store is a bit surreal. It's like a physical manifestation of TaoBao or AliExpress. Everything is in Chinese with small English subtitles even though it is located on the Canadian prairies.

Pretty good prices too...49" 4K televisions on special for CA$340 (less than US$250)!

@pfm maybe I'll write about it a bit. The intention was to build a PeerTube instance that only hosted Public Domain / Creative Commons media, and provide captions and donation links and stuff.

The cool thing is that PT instance admins can subscribe to the whole instance, and their local catalog will get populated with all available channels and videos. So, in a way it's a means of syndication, and could be useful for bootstrapping an instance with something to watch.

I discovered my first hidden camera at an AirBnB last week in Yerevan, Armenia. Always scan the wifi when you get to a new place!! #surveillance #nmap #privacy #dystopia #security #badposture

I mean municipal more in the sense of libertarian municipalism, self-determination and federation of villages, towns, cities.

Obviously access to physical housing is a mess, at least where I'm currently living, so maybe not the best reference point. But I'm finding it an interesting framing.

Every Facebook or Twitter profile is currently a home on the web, and it's as if billions of people all have the same corrupt landlord.

Like, the hammer and sickle literally wasn't made as a symbol of socialism. It was made as a symbol of the Soviet empire

No matter how you feel about the USSR, it's gone now. The symbol just isn't relevant. Put it away

The solid red flag works completely fine as a symbol of socialism that wasn't created by a totalitarian empire that slaughtered anarchists. But if you're not happy with that you can also use the red rose (with or without a loaf of bread or stalk of wheat) or the cog

Just, please, phase out the hammer and sickle. Its symbolism isn't even relevant to the modern world

Now that the hotter weather has finally found my little patch of the planet the backyard raspberries have gotten a little carried away with themselves. Better a bit late than never I suppose.

...capitalism cannot be sustainable or even humane if people don't have ownership over their lives (ie. no property)...it's basically "property==rights", and as such we have very few rights anymore.

Yet "entrepreneurs" that manage to succeed at separating as many people from property as possible are celebrated and rewarded handsomely in our corporatist economy. Continuing down this path cannot end well.

So investopedia website says "Private property rights are central to a capitalist economy".

But the today people rent homes or are heavily mortgaged, lease cars or take Uber/lyft/car2go and even rent those hideous green bikes and scooters, pay monthly to stream music and video instead of buying media, and increasingly rent their software under the guise of license activations and "*-as-a-service".

Something has seriously gone off the rails here...
