I know my drinking has gone up since I started isolating but damn if I don't make a good old fashioned. Few places down here can really get the balance right, heck, many places make me a manhatten when I ask for an old fashioned.
@thatgeoguy do you have any tips? not that I've ever tried
@kai I mean aside from the basic recipe?
2 shots whiskey (usually rye)
1 shot simple syrup
2-3 dashes of bitters (angostura preferred)
Then when pouring always pour over a single large ice cube rather than many small ones (surface area, also only if on the rocks), and twist and fold the orange peel a bit before putting it in the drink.
@kai I usually leave it to sit for about 2 minutes or so once I throw the orange peel in though, so it can all mix together. But overall, it's very easy to do, and I'm surprised how often people screw it up.
@thatgeoguy I once went to a bar that responded to my request for an Old Fashioned with, "An old fashioned what?"
I ordered a beer instead.
